Surprise Surprise!
Well college football is officially coming to an end. The senior bowl is this weekend and all the participants will have a last shot at improving their draft status. I am slightly impressed with this year's seniors. There are a couple that might not make it to the NFL but are interesting stories. My two favorites happen to be quarterbacks. The first is Rhett Bomar of Sam Houston State in Texas. If some of you recognize the name you should, Bomar was the freshman sensation at Oklahoma. He had a hell of a season then catastrophe struck. He was cut from the team for getting payed at job he never showed up to. At Sam Houston State he only had a mediocre career. I think if someone takes a chance on him in the late rounds he will make a good back-up and eventually, if worked with a potential starter. The other quarterback is Nathan Brown, that's right I might be drafted. Just Kidding. My namesake is the Central Arkansas university quarterback. He had a helluva a year and if you look him up on youtube you can see he has poise in the pocket and he stands tall. I like him. He may not get drafted but I think he will end up on a roster somewhere.
But the story of the college post-season so far is the guys who decided to stay. Two of the most intriguing are Sam Bradford and Jermaine Grisham. Sam Bradford has everything you want in a professional quarterback. He is smart with the ball and he has poise beyond his years. It is understandable that he stayed. He can physically mature and personally I want to know if he can take a hit. I know he can move well in the pocket but I want to see a little more of that as well. I am not convinced that he is tough enough to make it in the NFL, especially since he would be drafted early by a bad team. It is not his fault that I do not believe he is tough enough for the NFL, he just didn't have to prove it. I have to admit, though, that the most perplexing returning starter on the Sooners is Grisham. He is fit for the NFL. He has all the physical qualities to be a star in the NFL at tight end. He is big, strong, and fast. He can block and catch the deep ball. I don't understand his decision but I can not condemn it. I can only hope he has a great year and does not get hurt.
There are two out going seniors that I would like to see make it in the NFL and they are also quarterbacks. It is Chase Daniel and Graham Harrell. These guys are two class acts. I think that Graham has the physical tools to make it but Chase has the drive. Both of these guys will be good additions to an NFL roster.
I thoroughly enjoyed this year's stay trend. I am glad that a lot of the big names in college football will be back. Call me selfish, but I am not ready to see some of these guys on Sunday's. Live like no one is watching and leave Sunday's to the cry babies.
