BCS BOWLING BUST
Good morning. I started again training for the marathon. I got new shoes so hopefully that will help with the lower back problems and the stress fracture. Anyway, last night was the high school all-American game. It was pretty fun to watch. Some of the kids are phenomenal athletes. It is really fun to watch these games because when you see these kids in the next couple of years it is amazing how they have grown and matured. On Saturday UConn beat Buffalo in quite possibly the sloppiest winning effort I have ever seen. But the the victory proved mostly that whenever John, Elysa, and I all pick the same team that team is headed for certain disaster. But just a little hint it happened again today. So lets get on with the Fiesta Bowl.
Tonight's game looks better on paper than it will actually be. That sucks because most of the bowl games have been the opposite. Texas has a high-powered offense led by Colt McCoy. McCoy is an efficient passer and an above average runner. But his best quality is his leadership and poise. I hate the University of Texas but just can't seem to root against this kid. He has some great weapons around him with Shipley and Cosby. Texas isn't too shabby on defense either. With Brian Orakpo, the most physically menacing defensive player in college football, coming off the edge Texas might be able to contain Terrell Pryor and the often shaky Ohio State offense. Terrell Pryor is another physical beast. He is a lot like Vince Young, however I believe he can become a more accomplished passer. He throws the ball down field well, especially on play action. This is bad news for a young Texas secondary that gets caught looking in the backfield way too often. Ohio State does have a great defense, but we have seen every year with every Big 10 school that these numbers are deceiving due to the offenses they play. Like I said looks good on paper. I am picking Texas big. If Texas isn't throwing themselves a pity party for missing the National Championship game then they will be out to prove they belong there, which meas a big dose of ass whoopin soup for the Buckeyes. Lys also picked Texas now. Now for John's analysis:
"This should be a better match up than it looks like on paper. The Longhorns are a good team who are getting better. Ohio State is going to give them a taste of what it is like to stop an option quarterback. The Longhorns' defense will be the key to their win here. Calling this one for the Longhorns.
Well after tonight there will only two more games left in college football. I hope these last three give us everything we could hope for. Stay tuned for tomorrow's pick plus a full National Championship extravaganza. Live like no one is watching and remember training for the marathon is stupid and should only be performed by professionals!
