Diamond in the rough!
Yesterday we had the full array of bowl games. We had a blow out, a great game, and a pretty impressive game by a freshman quarterback. West Virginia's quarterback, Pat White, is a total class act. He threw for a career high 334 yards yesterday and made some throws that answered a lot of questions about whether or not he could make "NFL" throws or not. He also proved he and his coach are two class acts and we will not get to witness a player like that in college football everyday. Florida State was way too fast for Wisconsin last night. Teams like Northwestern and Minnesota in the Big 10 are proving that they can be successful with the spread. Until the rest of the conference can catch on tit will continue to get dominated by mediocre teams from mediocre conferences. Also, despite the loss, Miami's Jacory Harris played a helluva football game and kept the Hurricane's in it until the last second.
Now for today's game. Northern Illinois will be playing Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl. This bowl usually stacks a middle of the road SEC team against a middle of the road Big 12 team. They couldn't get a team from either of those conferences, so they chose the Huskies and the Bulldogs. Despite the lack of big names and established programs, this will be a good one. Both teams are balanced and pretty sound football teams. Northern Illinois went from 2-10 last year to 6-6 this year. The Huskies quarterback Chandler Harnish is athletic and makes good decisions with the football. Louisiana Tech has a thousand yard rusher in Porter and sophomore Ross Jenkins, a great athlete, at quarterback. I regrettably do not much about these two teams, but I love the balance of Louisiana Tech. I chose Louisiana Tech. John and Elysa both picked Northern Illinois.
The bow season so far has not been disappointing. I am very impressed with the way teams have showed up and played. Stay tuned tonight for a special treat from John and some more bowl picks. Live like no one is watching and say hi to a stranger.
